What we collect, and why

Future of My Job asks for as little as it needs to compute your result and deliver your plan. This page lists everything it keeps, in plain terms.

Effective

What we collect

When you take the assessment, we store:

  • Your answers. Your job title, your industry and your answers to the remaining thirteen questions about how you work.
  • An email address, only if you enter one. The email step at the end of the assessment is optional. Everything works without it. If you skip it and later buy a plan through Gumroad, the email address you give at checkout is stored with your assessment so we can send you the link to your plan.
  • A random session identifier. Your browser generates a random id and keeps it in local storage so that assessments started from the same browser can be grouped. It is not linked to your name or any account, because there are no accounts.
  • Timestamps. When an assessment was created, when a plan was generated and, if you asked to be told when the plan opens for purchase, when you asked.

Free snapshot. Your saved assessment answers determine your scores and a suggested first step. No AI provider receives them for the free snapshot.

Action worksheet. Entries in the action worksheet stay only in the current page’s memory. We do not save them or send them to a server or AI provider. Copy or print the worksheet if you want to keep it before leaving the page.

If you buy a Career Transition Plan, we also store a payment record:

  • Payment is handled by a payment processor on its own checkout page: Gumroad or Lemon Squeezy, each of which also acts as merchant of record and seller of your purchase, or Stripe. The processor receives your email address and your payment details directly, under its own privacy policy; we never see or store your card details. We store the sale, order or checkout session id with your assessment, together with the amount, the currency, which processor was used and the payment status.

Our hosting provider records standard request logs, such as IP address and browser type, for a limited time for security and reliability. We do not use them to profile you.

Why we collect it

  • To compute your result and suggest a first step. The five scores, the exposure band and your initial suggestion are determined from your answers by fixed rules. The methodology page shows exactly how.
  • To generate the paid plan, if you buy one.
  • To show your results at your results link. The link contains a long random identifier. Anyone who has the link can open it, so keep it as private as you want your result to be.
  • For product analytics. We use Vercel Web Analytics to count visits and actions on public pages, such as starting an assessment. Analytics events are disabled on private results, plan and admin pages, and on the action worksheet. Public page events have query strings and fragments removed before sending. Vercel processes information such as page paths, referring sites, device and browser type, and approximate location to show aggregate usage. Our custom event properties do not include your email, job title, answers or report contents. Purchase and report totals also come from our own payment and delivery records. See Vercel’s analytics privacy documentation for how it processes this information.
  • Your email, if given, is used to send you transactional email about your own assessment: a link to your results, and a note when your plan is ready or when generating it failed. These are sent through Resend, an email delivery service, which receives your address and the message under its own privacy policy. The messages contain your job title and a link, never your answers or scores. Your email is also used to pre-fill checkout so the payment processor can send your receipt, to tell you when the plan opens for purchase if you asked us to, and to find your assessment if you write to us about it. We do not send newsletters or marketing.

The paid plan and AI

New paid-plan purchases are unavailable during the free public beta. The assessment and work snapshot do not call an AI model. The paid report processing described below remains relevant to existing purchasers, including report retries.

The paid Career Transition Plan is written by an AI model provided by Anthropic. To generate it, we send your job title, your industry, your answers and your computed scores to Anthropic’s API and receive the plan back. We do not send your email address or your session identifier. Anthropic processes that request under its API terms. We do not use your answers or your plan to train any model.

The model is never used to calculate your scores. Those are computed by fixed rules before anything is sent to a model.

Where it is stored

Assessments, plans and payment records are stored in a hosted database provided by Supabase. The database is not accessible from the browser; every read and write goes through our own server code.

How long we keep it

We keep your assessment and any plan so that your results link keeps working. There is no automatic expiry in this version of the product.

You can ask us to delete your data at any time by emailing privacy@futureofmyjob.com. Include your results link, or write from the email address you entered, so we can find the right record. We will delete the assessment and the plan. If you made a purchase, we may keep the minimal payment record (the sale, order or checkout session id, amount and status) for as long as we need it for accounting, without your answers attached.

Your results page is available to anyone who has its link, and the link is not published or listed anywhere. If you share it, the recipient sees what you see: your scores, your job title, your industry, the factors behind your score (which describe your answers in plain terms, for example that most of your work is done on a computer), and any purchased report, including its PDF download. The separate “Share the free assessment” action shares a general invitation to take their own assessment; it does not include your score, answers or private results link. Results-link previews use generic site information. Your email address is not shown on your results page or plan.

What we do not do

  • We do not require an account. There is nothing to sign up for.
  • We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with data brokers.
  • We do not run advertising trackers. We use Vercel Web Analytics for the product analytics described above.
  • We do not send marketing email.

Cookies and browser storage

  • Cookies. When you start a Gumroad checkout we set one cookie, holding the identifier of your results page, so the “Return to your results” link on your receipt can bring you back. It expires after one day and is used for nothing else. The only other cookie is an administrative cookie used by staff to sign in to an internal statistics page; it is never set for visitors. Gumroad, Lemon Squeezy and Stripe set their own cookies on their checkout pages, under their own privacy policies.
  • Session storage. Your in-progress assessment is kept in your browser’s session storage so a page refresh does not lose your place. It is cleared when you close the tab.
  • Local storage. The random session identifier described above and your appearance preference if you choose a light or dark theme. Clear this site’s browser data to remove them.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the data we hold about you, to correct it, to have it deleted, to object to or restrict how it is used, and to receive a copy in a portable form. You may also have the right to complain to a data protection authority.

To exercise any of these, email privacy@futureofmyjob.com. We will respond within thirty days. Because there are no accounts, we will ask for your results link or the email address you entered so that we act on the right record and nobody else’s.

Children

The service is about working life and is intended for adults. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under sixteen.

Changes to this page

If we change what we collect or how we use it, we will update this page and change the effective date at the top. Material changes will be noted on the site.
